The Pronkin’ Pastures alpaca story begins about 8 years ago.  Tired of living where we were - a nice home, but on a small lot in a congested neighborhood - we began searching for something new…  A place where our dogs had room to run, where we could have a garden, and where we could enjoy nature and quiet surroundings.

Our search ended when we found a home on 10 beautiful acres on central Whidbey Island.  We loved the property!  In walking the property with the former owner, he asked us “What will you do with all this property?”  We hadn’t a clue!  We were just so glad for the space!  But that planted a seed for us, and before you know it, we decided to have some kind of livestock.

Enter the alpaca!  We visited many alpaca farms, did loads of research, and came up with a business plan.  We decided that alpacas were for us!

Starting out with 3 pregnant females, 2 crias, and a rescue llama to guard them - 8 years later we now have a herd of over 30 huacayas, 2 suris, a farm store, and a love of all things alpaca!

With 8 years of learning and experience under our belt, our business plan has evolved and changed.  Our focus is on uniformity of fleece (for a quality finished product with a great hand), healthy animals with strong confirmation (low maintenance and vet bills), and pleasant dispositions (because we work closely with them every day) in a range of colors.  We are thrilled with the improvement in our herd!  Take a look at some of our 2012 crias pictured below...

Laycee - very fine, dense, and personality plus!
